Time to get your home ready for Summer!
No matter the age of your house, there are always things that need to be checked after a long winter. Getting your home ready for summer accomplishes two goals at the same time. It will make your home more energy efficient, and if you are selling your home, it will improve the curb appeal.

There are several things to check and do on the exterior of the home. Clean your gutters and inspect for damage. Replace or repair any damaged gutters or downspouts. Inspect the roof – especially if you notice roof shakes or shingles lying on the ground. Inspect siding, paint, and caulking around openings, and cracks in brick and mortar. Make any repairs or touch up the paint.
Make sure the caulking hasn’t broken or pulled apart. If it has, cut out all the old caulking with a knife or a screwdriver. Don’t caulk on top of old caulk. Check the driveway, walkways and foundation.
Outside, check for any containers that may have collected water & empty as they are just the place mosquitos are looking to breed. Be snake aware; remove all rubbish lying around and keep your garden trimmed. Spray around your vents with a reputable bug surface spray to reduce the chance of spiders & other pests.
Prepare for outside entertaining by washing down all your outdoor furniture, check them for spiders too. Check your “bug zapper” to make sure it is working or have some citronella candles on hand to keep the mozzies at bay. Get your BBQ ready by cleaning the grill, replacing any worn parts and make sure you check your gas line & tank for leaks. Keep plenty of sunscreen & bug repellent on hand, so that you can make the most of any chance to get outside and enjoy the summer!
In the interest of curb appeal, as well as enjoying your yard, these suggestions might be helpful. Have and keep the lawn mowed, the trees clipped, the shrubs maintained. Pull the weeds and trim the hedges. Wash the windows and check the casings and shutters for a possible touch-up. Plant or hang a few flowers out front. It adds a little colour to the picture.
